Annoying things people like to say to you when you're pregnant

I don't know if it was just me, but when I was pregnant people used to say the most god awful things to me, I don't really know why but it was such a common occurrence I started to write them down. To clarify - that picture isn't me. I have hardly any pictures from when I was pregnant because I looked like a common garden troll.

  • "Just wait..." - cheers for that
  • Everyone seemed to have an opinion on feeding, they still do actually. "Oh my god you're bottle feeding? You do know that breastfeeding is better for them?" or "Oh my god you're breastfeeding? Why would you make a rod for your own back?" - the 'rod for your own back' brigade deserve a special shoutout in my opinion.
  • "You look tired/horrendous" - again, cheers
  • People also like to discuss your birth plans and rip them to pieces. "Oh she's having a cesarean you know, too posh to push", "you want a drug free birth? I had drugs what's wrong with having drugs?" - knob off, this is entirely up to you and any medical professionals involved.
  • "Your bump is huge/tiny" - thanks for your clearly medical analysis
  • "We didn't do that in my day" - boss, but times do change
  • "You're getting bigger" - no shit, Sherlock
  • "Should you still be working?" -  and this concerns you why?
  • "Was it planned?" - how rude
  • "You're going back to work?!?!" - yes and I don't feel the need to explain my financial situation to you
  • "Is it safe to stay vegetarian while you're pregnant?" - I got this one a LOT
  • "I think it's a..." - now I know people are just being friendly here but hearing it multiple times a day really got on my wick, everyone was wrong anyway!
  • Casual bump touching - now some people are allowed a casual bump touch e.g. my partner! but anyone else just bloody ask. It's weird and makes me want to touch your belly back to show you how freaky it is. When people don't even touch the baby region and it's just like "yep you are stroking my breakfast"
  • "Oh I was sick all through my pregnancy" - not what you want to hear when you're stuck on a ward being treated for Hyperemesis Gravidarum
  • "Have you tried ginger biscuits?" - I've obviously tried everything under the sun, shove your bloody ginger biscuits
  • People treating you like an absolute imbecile because you don't know what things are. Yep it's my first time doing this and I don't think my baby or myself will suffer because I didn't (still don't tbh) know what pram shoes are.
  • "Oh my husband never had any time off with me" - brilliant, mine did
  • "You can't eat/drink that" - just to clarify this was a particular cheese, I wasn't going out on the razz.
I'm sure there are many more but those are the ones that have stuck by me. If someone you know and love is pregnant take my advice - don't say any nonsense to them as they may hit you (can blame it on the hormones :)). Have you got any to add to my list?

A Little Update

Hi guys

Long time no blog eh? Yep I know that I pretty much disappeared off the face of the earth for no apparent reason but I honestly couldn't get any motivation together to get posting. I'm still not 100% sure that the motivation has come back tbh with you. So, whats happened over the last year? Quite a lot honestly!

In October I found out that I was pregnant and my plan was to sail through pregnancy and document it on this blog. Ha. I was so ill I ended up being hospitalised 4 times - I was suffering with Hyperemesis Gravidarum which now I'm on the other side I can wholeheartedly say is much much worse than childbirth. My vision was to be all radiant and glowing with cutesy little updates. This still makes me chuckle. I plan to do a post on my experience of HG when I feel up to it. I actually started a written journal when I found out I was pregnant and the first trimester makes for some pretty harrowing reading. I remember my Dad coming to visit me in hospital and crying on him saying that I thought I was going to die as I felt so terrible.

Anyway, I'm trying to keep this short and sweet but clearly that isn't going to happen. On the 15th June 2016 I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy who we called George. I was convinced that he was a girl so I was pretty shocked when James announced to me we had had a little boy. He wasn't so little actually he was 9lb 3oz which is on the large side seeing as I was all bump! I actually put 4 stone on during pregnancy and most of it fell off in the days after delivery. The delivery itself was quite eventful but again I'm not up to sharing that just yet I don't think. I went down the Hypnobirthing route which was drug free which was my goal until I ended up in Theatre. But as I said, that's a story for another time.

I know a lot of my readers are particularly enamored with Karl so a quick update on him. He's doing really well and has had no further medical issues *touch wood* and is a happy little bunny. He isn't quite sure what to make of George tbh with you, they're just not interested in each other.

So, that's where I've been! Hopefully I will get back into the swing of things but I don't really have a lot of free time these days so it will be as and when.

Bunny Box - July* | The Best Monthly Subscription Box?

Hi guys

Hope you all are well! Long time readers will know about my little furry companion Karl and his antics but I have noticed that there are quite a few new people *waves* so here is a quick introduction.

Karl is a miniature English Lop (so I'm told) and is 4 next month. He is a cheeky little chap who can often be found hiding where he shouldn't be or nibbling on a slipper.

Rabbit Subscription Box

Karl is a house rabbit who is really spoiled in honesty, I mean, he has a blanket with his name on - he really rules the roost in our house.

Being primarily a beauty blogger I often see beauty box subscriptions and the occasional dog/cat one but nothing for a very spoiled bunny. When I discovered Bunny Box I thought it sounded perfect. After reading up on the company I have discovered that Bunny Box was founded by Stuart Cookney who wanted to buy a box for his bunny, Mr Buttons, but couldn't find any available. A man after my own heart I think!

Bunny Boxes contain natural products that are delicious and more importantly, safe. Each box contains a minimum of 6 items which is worth more than the cost of the individual box. So if you spoil your bun as much as I do it's a no brainer really!

So.. what's in July's box?

Rabbit Treats

I tend to buy all of Karl's treats from the Rosewood Naturals range anyway so I was so happy to see their inclusion in the Bunny Box. In fact he had only tried one of the treats before (Dandelion Delight) so you definitely get a good variety.

Karl's favourite things in this box were the Corn Rattle Rollers, the Ginko Plus and the Dandelion & Nettle Roots - he's not great with crunchy things due to his lack of teeth but they are easily broken so he can manage a little better!

Rabbit Snacks
Rabbit Toys
Decisions, Decisions

Bunny Box is available as a one off purchase of £15 or you can subscribe for longer (3 months, 6 months etc) and it works out cheaper per box that way. Delivery is really quick too - and free! Karl's box was delivered to our neighbor who was definitely intrigued by it!

If you subscribe for a 3 month Bunny Box plan you can receive a free gift with your order by entering FREEGIFT at the checkout - what more incentive do you need really?

Have you tried Bunny Box? What did you think?

Empties #20

Hello
The latest five to bite the dust:
  • Avon Raspberry and Hibiscus Shower Gel
  • Sure Deodorant
  • The Body Shop Shea Shower Cream
  • Clearasil Superfruits Cleansing Pads
  • Neal's Yard Remedies Lengthening Mascara

Raspberry and Hibiscus Shower Gel - I loved the scent of this, it was really fruity and a perfect start to a morning.
Repurchase: Yes, when there's an offer on.

Mens Anti Antiperspirant - I do sometimes prefer using a deodorant that is targeted for men, especially when I've been using the same one repeatedly. I think this one from Sure smells really nice and keeps you fresh all day. You can pick these up from the pound shop too so that's always handy.
Repurchase: Yes.

Shea Shower Cream - I like to use a shower cream during the colder months, I find them really comforting. I'm a huge fan of The Body Shop and their Shea range is beautiful.
Repurchase: Yes.

Superfruits Refreshing Pads - I've spoken about these before, if your skin feels/looks a bit gross then you need to try them. They are so easy to slip in to an existing routine and they really get rid of those dull skin cells.
Repurchase: Yes.

Lengthening Mascara - This is hands down the worst mascara I've ever used. After applying three coats you still don't get any sort of effect. This isn't even empty, I just need to throw it away.
Repurchase: No.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blusher in Blissful | Review and Swatches

Hello

I know that QVC have started selling Tarte products but they are notoriously hard to get hold of in the UK. Luckily for me I have a friend that visits America rather frequently so I often send her armed with a Sephora list. It would be rude not to right?

I thought a good foray into Tarte would be their blusher range, there are loads of them and they are renowned for being long wearing and pigmented. Sold. The packaging of each blusher corresponds to the shade inside which is handy if you have a lot of them in your collection. Blissful is in a round plastic compact which contains a large circular mirror in the lid.

From what I can gather all of the Tarte pressed powder products are all embossed with the same design which is a nice touch.

Blissful is a "shimmering warm peach", which it totally isn't, it isn't shimmery for one thing. It is quite warm and it is a peachy pink so 2 outa 3 ain't bad! I find the powder almost feels waxy to the touch, I thought it might just be the top layer of the embossing but it still feels like that now, it doesn't affect the application or the longevity but I thought it rather strange.

Anyway, Blissful is a doddle to apply as you can apply it very softly for a more natural look or build it up as much as you like. I tend to go for the natural look and I have never once gone OTT with this blusher. Result. The longevity is great too, it lasts a full working day on me which is all I ever ask for. It probably lasts longer but as soon as I get home I take my makeup off!

I know I look exhausted there, what else is new?! Since purchasing Blissful I do reach for it most days as it is super subtle and pretty for work. I definitely want some more shades so fingers crossed they have them in Sephora! They are $28 each which is £17.88 as of 18.05.2015 - which is about the same as a Clinique Cheek Pop for reference.

What Tarte products could you recommend?

The Weekly Ramble #106

Hello

The weekly face:

I swear this has been one of the most trying weeks ever, we've spent so much money and my temper has been so short. I'm glad it's over and I'm glad that I'm off work tomorrow. The plan is to get on top of the gardening but as the weather has been so unpredictable recently who knows?

Karl has had yet another operation the poor fella, just look at that face. He's still a bit off but on the mend!

I'm taking my Mum out later for a bit of a wonder, not decided where yet but it feels like I haven't seen her in ages.

I'm also going watching Cinderella next week which I'm looking forward to!

Eylure Brow Crayon in Mid Brown | Review and Swatches

Hello

In the eyebrow arena I am pretty much a creature of habit and religiously use my Sleek palette on a daily basis. However, I am always open to a bit of suggestion and for a more natural look I thought I would try the Eylure brow crayon in Mid Brown.

Eylure are a brand that I hadn't tried previously and as far as I was aware they only made eyelashes. The brow crayon is a standard twist up pencil which closes securely. It is the perfect size for throwing in my travel makeup bag.

The formula leans towards the waxy side which can make it difficult as it can feel like the tip is dragging rather than gliding. A bit of practice and you soon get the hang of it though. I don't feel like the Eylure brow crayon is a bad product but I'm just not wowed. I think it is because it's just not what I'm looking for in a brow product these days, it's too natural looking for me, which sounds weird I know.  If brow crayons and pencils are your jam you may love this. I of course will use it up (waste not want not and all that) and it is going down at a considerable rate and I've only used it a few times (about 10). A bonus of the crayon is that it does stay put all day, is there anything worse than your eyebrow disappearing on you? I think not.

Ha that posey face. I think one of the main issues that I'm having is that my eyebrows are pretty shocking to start with, if you have a lovely full set of brows (that sounded so creepy, sorry!) then this may be just what you need to fill in the odd sparse area, my problem is that most of my brow is sparse.

So, my main piece of advice from this is don't overpluck your eyebrows, you will come to regret it 15 years later when they still haven't grown back.

The Eylure brow crayon is available from Marks and Spencer, costs £6.45 for 0.23g and is available in 3 shades - Brown, Dark Brown and Blonde.
